“I have decided to stick with Love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” – Dr Martin Luther King

Hate.

I’ve realized recently how much that word pains my heart. It literally hurts me to hear it.

Out of nowhere, my little 4 year old seems to have picked it up. At some stage each day, he is telling me he hates something. I am having a visceral reaction to it.

I dislike him saying Hate more than I would him saying a swear word. Yip, I’m that upset by the word.

But why? Because I don’t believe in Hate.

Sure, we each have a right to dislike something. We don’t have to be perky and positive about everything. I know I’m not.

But hate is such a powerful word. And I believe we use it in a misguided way.

It is deciding to hate that separates us from another. It is hate that looks for differences. It is hate that celebrates us from them. It is hate that causes disagreements, arguments, political friction. Hate is heartbreaking.

I believe in the oneness of humanity, and the magicalness of life.

I believe that everything and everyone has something to teach us if we allow our hearts to be open enough to search and receive. If we can approach life with love, or at least curiosity, we’re setting ourselves up for a happier future.

In my opinion, hating is a reflection of the hater. If you feel strongly enough about something to “hate” it, it is time to turn your energy inward and understand why.

You get what you give, and none of us want to be on the receiving end of hate.

Please don’t carry the burden of hate. Hating will hurt you; not those towards whom your hatred is facing.

So I’ll carry on attempting to educate my little man about why I find hate such a icky word, and hopefully I can convince him it’s not one he needs in his vocabulary.

I would love him to grow up in a world where hate didn’t exist. That starts with us. It starts in our homes, and it starts in our hearts.

In case you’re new, I’m Kate. Hi and welcome! I’m a Life Coach and an idealist. I would love to see a world full of a whole heap more soul, and I know that starts with us connecting deeply with our own spirits. It’s my mission to help as many people as I can learn how to reconnect with their essence so that they can live truly fulfilling lives. I have an MS in Psychology, but infuse my book knowledge with a giant dose of Soul. Because as humans, we’re more than just our minds; we’re also full of heart. To read more about me, click here
