I believe in self-care. Without investing in our well-being and nourishing our soul we will never be able to show up fully and give life what we’ve got.

We need to continually have a focus on topping ourselves back up so that we don’t just straight run out of gas. Nobody is their best when they’re running close to empty. If you need more convincing on just how important self-care is you can read more about that in the post Why Self-Care Isn’t Selfish.

Yet just because you believe in self-care doesn’t mean you will be any good at practicing it. Getting a grip of what kind of things will nourish your soul and help revive you is crucial if you are going to actually make self-care a part of your life. I strongly encourage you to put aside some time and write out a “Self-Care List” and just let your heart pour out all the things that you LOVE to do, and that make you feel all-brand-new. The more you can bring them into your awareness, the easier it becomes to start making these things a regular part of your life.

To get your mind thinking along the lines of self-care however, I’ve also compiled a list of 18 simple ways to practice self-care. Some of these might also work for you.
  1. Take a hot bath
  2. Play some uplifting music
  3. Light some scented candles
  4. Meditate
  5. Pour yourself a coffee or herbal tea, and give yourself permission to quietly drink and savor it
  6. Write in a journal
  7. Partake in a creative activity that you love (i.e. scrapbooking, gardening, painting, writing)
  8. Treat yourself to a manicure
  9. Buy yourself flowers
  10. Attend a Yoga class
  11. Snuggle up with your pet for 5 mins
  12. Take a walk in nature
  13. Create some positive affirmations for yourself
  14. Apply at face mask at home
  15. Make yourself a nutritious smoothie
  16. Read a self-help book (or any book…I’m just in love with the self-help genre) [here are my 4 favorites]
  17. Apply hand cream
  18. Sleep

We all have different things that will restore us. By keeping a list handy when you know you are ready for a spot of self-care you don’t have to think about it. You can grab your ideas and work out which one feels like the perfect fill-me-up for you at that moment. I don’t think anyone regrets indulging in a little self-care from time-to-time!
